BEAR EXPEDITION 21-24 AUGUST 2025
DESCRIPTION
A 4-day workshop, from August 21st to 24th, organized in the heart of Slovenia, to discover the wildest and most uncontaminated nature of this fantastic land, waiting in the hut for the brown bear, immersed in the magic of these magnificent forests. A photography workshop concentrated in the places where there is a greater possibility of spotting bears, but not only. With a bit of luck you can also spot other animals, including various birds of prey, jays, hoopoes, woodpeckers, Ural owls, but also foxes and badgers.
Specifically, you will be guided by professional photographer Alessandro Di Modica, and I will share with you my experience and expertise in the world of Wildlife.
The sessions take place in the Slovenian forests, on the border with Croatia, where there are 8 different locations and over 30 professional photo hides. By participating in this workshop, you will have the opportunity to carry out three photo sessions in the hut, where the bear will be most active, thus maximizing the possibilities of observing and photographing this magnificent animal. For this event, 3 photo sessions are also planned at dawn, where, with targeted ambushes and with the help of covers, we will go to photograph the Ural Owl, very present in the area, and we will have excellent chances of being able to spot it.
These are short walks to the huts, where, in absolute silence, you can immerse yourself in the waiting in the wild heart of the Slovenian forests.
After the experience I had recently in photographing the brown bear, I decided to form a small group of people and give you the opportunity to admire the wonder that hides within the fantastic forests of Eastern Europe. Once we arrive at the facility we will hold a short introductory lesson where I will explain how to behave inside the shed, and little help on how to set up the camera to obtain wonderful shots.
PRICE 1330€
THE HIDES:
The hides photography is par excellence the most used technique to be able to photograph wild animals at close ranges without interfering or disturbing the fauna.
The huts that we will use have been designed and built to guarantee maximum comfort during the photographic session and at the same time to optimize the sighting possibilities with the use of particular strategies for the elimination of odors, acoustic insulation and the use of glass to also guarantee visual insulation.
Inside the sheds we will also have the opportunity to use photographic heads which can be inserted directly into a pre-built accommodation. Two large side windows will allow you to observe outside the shed in complete freedom while remaining invisible from the outside. In this way, in addition to photographs, each of us will be able to enjoy naturalistic spectacles just a few meters away.
RECOMMENDED PHOTOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT:
In terms of photography equipment, we recommend lenses ranging from 70-200mm, up to 500mm or more. The distance from the photographer to the subject can vary from approximately 10 to 50 meters.
Departures for the bear huts take place daily, from 1pm to 2pm (with the exact time communicated by the guide during lunch). Cabin locations range from 5 to 25 km from the property and require a 5 to 35 minute commute.
After a short walk, usually a few hundred meters, the photo session extends until sunset.
At the end of the session, where we will be taken back to the hotel by our guides, after dinner we will analyze the shots taken.
Although we can offer the best possibilities for photographing bears in their natural habitat, it must be said that the certainty of being able to photograph them is not guaranteed.
